Top of Hat
Start with a 5 mm hook
Ch 15
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across, turn. (14) (video 2:01)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc, 2 sc next st, sc across until the last 2 sts, 2 sc next st, sc last st, turn. (16) (video 2:41)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc across, turn.
Rows 4-9: Repeat rows 2&3. (22) (video 4:04)
Rows 10-30: Ch 1, sc across, turn. (video 5:46)
Rows 31-35: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc across until the last 2 sts, sc2tog, turn*. (12) (video 6:20)
*Do not turn after row 35
Note: Mark the first row of 14 sts. This will become the front of the hat.
Sides of Hat
We will now begin crocheting in the round. It can be helpful to use a stitch marker to note the first stitch in each round.
Round 1: Ch 1, to evenly sc around the perimeter of the work begin by working 35 sts down the left side, then work 14 sts across the opposite side of your foundation chain, then work 35 sts up the right side and 12 sts across the last row you completed, sl st to join. (96) (video 8:12)
Rounds 2-4: Ch 1, sc each st around, sl st to join. (video 10:13)
Round 5: Ch 1, *sc next 4 sts, sc2tog, rep from * around, sl st to join. (80) (video 10:51)
Rounds 6-7: Ch 1, sc each st around, sl st to join. (video 12:34)
Round 8: Ch 1, *sc next 3 sts, sc2tog, rep from * around, sl st to join. (64) (video 13:08)
Rounds 9-12: Ch 1, sc each st around, sl st to join. (video 14:32)
Fasten off.
Brim of Hat
Now we will begin using the 4 mm crochet hook and 2 strands of yarn held together.
Starting from the 1st stitch of round 12, count 24 sts over and place a marker in the 24th st, then count 17 sts over from the 24th st and place another marker in the 41st st. Attach your yarn at the first marker. (video 15:13)
Row 1: Ch 1, *sc next 2 sts, 2 sc next st, rep from * 4 more times, sc next 2 sts, turn. (22)
Row 2: Ch 1, blsc next 22 sts, hdc in next sc on foundation row, sl st in next st, turn. (24) (Video 17:35)
Row 3: Ch 1, sk first sl st, sc next 23 sts, hdc in next sc on foundation row, sl st in next st, turn. (25) (video 18:35)
Row 4: Ch 1, sk first sl st, *sc next 4 sts, 2 sc next st, rep from * 4 times, hdc in next sc on foundation row, sl st in next st, turn. (26) (video 19:27)

Fasten off and weave in ends.
