How Much Do Crochet YouTubers Get Paid?

How much money can I make on YouTube? In this post, we will break down the income you can expect to make from YouTube.

Don’t feel like reading? Watch the video above.

Today we’re going to find out exactly how much YouTube paid me as a crocheter. I have grown to over 130,000 subscribers. It’s easy to assume that I’m rolling in the crochet money. Just to let you know, I’m not.

Don’t let all these pretty pictures and patterns confuse you. We’re going to go behind my computer screen and see exactly how much I make as a crochet YouTuber.

I will only be going over my YouTube revenue. This article will not include my blog revenue, affiliate sales,  book sales, or any pattern sales. Please don’t get lost in the number and total amounts that you see.

Remember that I do this as a full-time job. I have to pay my own taxes, health insurance, and other recurring reoccurring monthly fees to keep my business in operation.

If you would like to know how much I make from all of my crochet revenue, check out my monthly income report. I break down exactly where my money is coming from.

How do YouTubers Get Paid

Let’s get into how exactly creators get paid. We get paid through the AdSense program. The AdSense programs allow creators to share in a profit of ad revenue. Advertisers bid for placements on videos.

You may have noticed at the beginning of any video that you click has an ad. You will see a little skip ad or banners pop up.  The more expensive are the ads, such as non-skippable ads, and the less expensive are banner pop-ups.

Anytime you see those ads, I get a portion of it. Actually, YouTube and I split the profit. It is a  55/45 split with creators.  I know it is a heavy split, but without YouTube, I wouldn’t be able to grow my business as big as I have.

YouTube has given me the opportunity to be in front of an audience that I never could have imagined. YouTube helps drive traffic to my other monetized platforms.

Who Can get Monetized?

Not all YouTube channels are monetized. In order to be monetized, you have to have at least  1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch time hours.

Trust me, this takes a lot of work to get.

Once you do get monetized, don’t expect money to start flowing in like the river. It’s more of a trickle. With consistency and great content, it will increase over time.

What is RPM

You’re probably wondering exactly how much money do you make per video. It varies throughout the year and the fluctuations in the RPM. It’s all about the RPM when determining how much money a crochet creator will make.

RPM is revenue per mile. To put that in layman’s terms, it is how much money I make per thousand views. Yes, I said a thousand.

I make $4.91 per thousand views on my YouTube channel.  You can imagine how many views would be necessary to make this your full-time income.

How much do YouTubers make a month?

Every channel is different. So we are just going to look at my own YouTube channel. Let’s put this in perspective. We’re going to take my previously mentioned RPM of $4.91 and round it up to $5. No one wants to work out complicated math.

If you receive 10,000 views with a $5 RPM, you would make $50. With 100,000 views, you would make $500. If you can pull 200,000 monthly views, you can make $1,000 a month.

As you can see, it takes a lot of views to make a profit on YouTube.

How much I make

Now we are going to get into how much money I’m currently making. This data is my past 28-day average. I received over 300,000 views, and I’m currently averaging $1,377 from AdSense revenue.

Since my income is so inconsistent, I have to make sure I subsidize with other sources of income such as patterns and blogs. Below I show you how my income varies from month to month on YouTube.

The screenshot below shows from Oct 2020 – Feb 2021. Look at the price difference between months.

This is why I tell other crocheters that they much have multiple sources of income. Make sure you have a blog, write patterns, or sell your finished item. It’s never smart to put all your eggs in one basket.

How much YouTube paid me in 2020

If you are wondering how much money do YouTubers make a year, it varies for a crocheter. Crochet explodes during the winter & fall season.

My views in the summer are just a dried up as the season! At the beginning of every fall season, my views go up. The weather is getting cooler & people are thinking about crochet projects for the holiday.

I earned a little over $19,000 from YouTube in 2020. With 50% of my YouTube revenue being made in the last quarter of the year.

Conclusion

Now that you have seen the bigger picture, you can truly see my income shifts throughout the year. I know I keep repeating the same advice, but it is so important. Have more than one income source.

If I solely depended on my YouTube money, I’m putting all my eggs in one basket. What if YouTube bans my channel or someone hacks my account? I don’t own the YouTube platform. But I do own my own pattern & website. Make sure you diversify your income.

I tried to have atleast 7 sources of income. If YouTube ever goes away for some reason, I’ll always have backups to supplement my income.
