Caron Simply Soft, Pumpkin (A), Gold (B), Pagoda (C), worsted weight #4, 250–300 yards

5mm crochet hook

Abbreviations (US Crochet Terms)

ch: chain

dc: double crochet

hdc: half double crochet

sc: single crochet

sl st: slip stitch

sp: space

rep: repeat

Gauge: Finished square = 3.5 in. (9 cm) 

Finished Size: ~21-22 inches circumference, 13 inches height

Granny Squares (Make 21 total)

ch 4, sl st to 1st ch to form ring.

Round 1 (Color A):Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 11 dc in ring, sl st top of ch-3. Fasten off. (12)(video 0:47)

Join Color B to any st.

Round 2 (Color B): Ch 3, dc in same st, ch 1, *2 dc next st, ch 1, rep from * around, sl st top of ch-3. Fasten off. (24)(video 1:36)

Join Color C to any ch-1 sp.

Round 3 (Color C): Ch 3, (2dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1) same space as join, (3 dc, ch 1) next ch-1 sp 2 times, *(3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1) next ch-1 sp, (3 dc, ch 1) next ch-1 sp 2 times, rep from * around, sl st top of ch-3. Fasten off. (48)(video 3:37)

Joining Squares (video 9:19)

3 squares wide × 7 squares tall = 21 squares for the body. Then join together on short sides to form a tube.

Crown

Attach yarn Color C to any dc

Round 1: Ch 1, sc each dc around (skipping all ch-1 sps). (84)

Round 2: Sc2tog around until 11 sts remain. Fasten off. Leave long tail for sewing and

sew opening closed.

Band 

Attach yarn Color C to any dc. (Or choose Color A or B to make a contrasting band of color)

Round 1: Ch 1, sc each dc around (skipping all ch-1 sps), sl st to join. (84)(video 14:25)

Rounds 2–7: Ch 1, sc each st around, sl st to join. 

Optional color change here for a contrasting brim. 

Round 8: Ch 1, hdc each st around, sl st to join. Round 9-11: Ch 1, *fpdc, bpdc next 2 sts, rep from * around, sl st to join. Fasten off and weave in ends. (video 16:43)
