When it comes to fashion or movies, I just love a “period” look. For this pattern, we are going to step into the roaring 20s with this free vintage crochet hat.
The inspiration for this pattern came from vintage pictures of brides during the 20s. Many of the woman during this time wore Juliet caps while getting married.
No wedding bells here. I’ve already walked down that isle. But I have a great written pattern & video tutorial to help create this crochet hat.

Materials
Caron Simply Soft worsted weight 250 yards (228.6 m)

Sl st- Slip st
Ch – Chain
Sc- Single Crochet
Hdc- Half Double Crochet
Dc – Double Crochet
Tdcsh- Two Double Crochet Shell
Picot- Picot
Specialty Stitches
Two Double Crochet Shell: 2 Dc, ch 1.
Picot: Ch3, insert hook down between the front and back loops of the st just made, yarn over, draw up a loop, draw this loop through the second loop on hook.
Fan: 8 dc same space.
Gauge 3 row = 2.5 in
*Notes- Chain 3 counts as a double crochet throughout entire pattern. Ch 1 does not count as a stitch throughout entire pattern.

Ch 4, slp st to 1st st to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc throughout), dc, ch 1. 5 Tdcsh into ring, sl st to join top of ch-3 st. (6 Tdcsh)
Round 2: Slp st next dc & ch-1 sp, (ch 3, dc, ch1, tdcsh) in ch-1 sp. 2 Tdcsh in each ch-1 sp around, sl st to join top of ch-3 st. (12 Tdcsh)
Round 3: Slp st next dc & ch-1 sp, (ch 3, dc, ch 1) in ch-1 sp, 2 tdcsh next ch-1 sp. *Tdcsh next ch-1 sp, 2 tdcsh next ch-1 sp.* Repeat *to* around, sl st to join top of ch-3 st. (18 Tdcsh)
Round 4: Sl st next dc & ch-1 sp, (ch 3, dc, ch 1) in ch-1 sp, tdcsh next ch-1 sp, 2 tdcsh in the next ch-1 sp. * Tdcsh in the next 2 ch-1 sps, 2 tdcsh next ch-1 sp.* Repeat *to* around, sl st to join top of ch-3 st. (24 Tdcsh)
Round 5-11: Sl st next dc & ch-1 sp, (ch 3, dc, ch 1) in ch-1 sp. Tdcsh in each ch-1 sp around, sl st to join top of ch-3 st. (24 Tdcsh) (Video 9:52)
Round 12-13 Ch 1 (does not count as st), hdc each st across, Includes dc & ch-1 sp. 72 st)
Round 14: Ch 1, sc same st, ch 6, sk 4. (Sc, ch 6 sk 4) 12 times total. Sc, sk 6, sl st to join top of 1st sc. (14 ch-6 sps) (Video 12:47)
Round 15: Sl st into ch-6 sp, (ch 3 , 7 dc) in ch-6 sp, sc next ch-6 sp. *8 Dc next ch-6 sp, sc next ch-6 sp.* Repeat *to*around, sl st to join top of ch-3 st. ( 7 Fans)
Round 16: Ch 1, sc same st, (dc, picot) 6 total times, Your Picot will set on top of the last Dc created, dc, sl st in previous row’s sc. *(Dc, picot) 7 times total, dc, sl st in previous row’s sc.* Repeat *to* around. (Dc, picot) to of 1st sc, sl st top of next dc. Fasten off (Video 16:00)
