Free Crochet Messy Bun Hat

Free crochet messy bun hat

I can never find a messy bun pattern that fits my huge amount of hair. This is why I created this free crochet messy bun hat with or without an elastic hair tie. There is little extra space for the ladies’ hair mass that laughs at the typical elastic hair tie.

The hat is created using Front post double crochet (FPDC) and the Möbius twist. Instead of working in the typical round, you will be crocheting in a figure 8 pattern. Combined with FPDC, this hat’s texture is amazing. You actually have to see it to believe it.

This pattern was inspired by a pattern inspired by my pattern. It sounds confusing, I know. I created the Vintage Cloche Hat a while back, It put a twist on your typical crochet hat. Cheryl Flower ran with the idea & created a messy bun hat. Inspired by her inventive mind, I took a shot at it.

I must say I love the way Cheryl Fowler uses colors when she creates anyone of her projects. If you have seen any of her work with  my Facebook group or the many other groups she is in, you’d be amazed by every single post. She is a true talent.

If it was for her great pictures, we might not have a pattern this week! After spending this week working on the pattern, I got stuck on the simplest part. The photo.

You would think, someone who creates as much as I do should have a huge color pallet of yarn… Well, I do have a lot of colorful yarn. Unfortunately, this crafty girl cannot color coordinate! My life & wardrobe is full of neutral colors.

Once again, thank you, Cheryl. You have managed to make another one of my patterns pop! Scroll down below to follow along to the video and written pattern.
