There’s something about ice cream that makes everything feel just a little bit better. When you have a bad day, ice cream is there to remind you that everything is going to be ok. I designed this scarf to make people smile, just like ice cream does.

I had a lot of fun choosing the color schemes for these scarves. I modeled them after my favorite ice cream flavors – spumoni and PB&J. If you’ve never had spumoni ice cream before, you are missing out! It is cherry, pistachio, and chocolate flavors. These flavors are represented in the infinity scarf with the colors pink, pale green and brown. And yes, peanut butter and jelly ice cream exists and it’s fantastic. Peanut butter is represented with light brown, strawberry jelly is represented with red and the vanilla base of this delicious mix is represented with white.
Can we talk about the stitch for a minute? It’s called Mini Ripple and I got it from the book Crochet Every Way Stitch Dictionary by Dora Ohrenstein. It’s entirely made up of treble crochet stitches. Increases and decreases give each row its characteristic ripple. Once you get into the rhythm it’s ridiculously quick to crochet and highly addictive! I love stitches that are both interesting and easy – so I can watch The Great British Bake Off at the same time haha.
Materials
Worsted, size 4, medium weight yarn in 3 colors. (I used Paintbox Cotton Aran for the PB&J scarf and Lion Brand Feels Like Butta for the Spumoni scarf)
For the spumoni color block:
- 45 g / 85 yards pink
- 45 g / 85 yards brown
- 45 g / 85 yards pale green
For the PBJ Striped:
- 45 g / 85 yards red
- 45 g / 85 yards white
- 45 g / 85 yards light brown
4 mm hook

This is designed to be a child’s size scarf. You can always add extra rows to make an adult size scarf.
Abbreviations
US Terminology
- ch = chain
- st = stitch
- sl st = slip stitch
- tc = treble crochet
- tc3tog = treble crochet 3 together
Notes
Color Changes: When you have 2 loops on your hook from the last tc of the current color, draw up a loop from the new color to pull through the 2 loops and finish the tc, then proceed to the next stitch with the new color.
Starting chains: The ch 4 at the beginning does count as a tc.
Spumoni Color Block
If you’ve never had spumoni ice cream before, you are missing out! It is cherry, pistachio, and chocolate flavors. These flavors are represented in this scarf with the colors pink, pale green and brown.
With pale green
Row 1: Ch 21, tc in 5th ch from hook, [tc3tog over the next 3 ch, tc 3 in the next ch] 3 times, tc3tog over the next 3 ch, tc 2 in the last ch, turn. (17)
Row 2: Ch 4, tc in the first st, [tc3tog over the next 3 sts, tc 3 in the next st] 3 times, tc3tog over the next 3 sts, tc 2 in the last st, turn.
Rows 3-17: Repeat row 2.
With pink
Rows 18-34: Repeat row 2.
With brown
Rows 35-51: Repeat row 2.
Don’t fasten off if you’ll be making this into an infinity scarf. Just skip ahead to the finishing section.
PBJ Stripes

With light brown
Row 1: Ch 21, tc in 5th ch from hook, [tc3tog over the next 3 ch, tc 3 in the next ch] 3 times, tc3tog over the next 3 ch, tc 2 in the last ch, turn. (17)
Row 2: Ch 4, tc in the first st, [tc3tog over the next 3 sts, tc 3 in the next st] 3 times, tc3tog over the next 3 sts, tc 2 in the last st, turn.
With red
Rows 3-4: Repeat row 2.
With white
Rows 5-6: Repeat row 2.
Repeat this same color pattern of 2 rows of light brown, 2 rows of red and 2 rows of white until you have 48 total rows.
Don’t fasten off your last color if you’ll be making this into an infinity scarf. Just skip ahead to the finishing section.
Finishing
For an infinity scarf, simply take the two ends of your scarf and hold them together. Working through both ends at the same time, sl st across.
You’ll be able to see this on the inside of your scarf but don’t worry. No one will see this bit as it will be cozied up against your little one’s neck.
Secure your ends with double knots where possible (this is a kids scarf after all and it needs to hold up to some wear!) and then weave them in.
