8 sc and 8 rows = 2 inches (5 cm)

Notes
Color changes should be made on the last stitch of the previous row. For a color change demonstration, see Video 3:31.

Don’t fasten off the old color of yarn unless directed. You can pick colors back up to work with them again without detaching them from the work.

Pattern
With Color A, loosely ch 36(38,40).
R1: Sc second ch from hook, sc across, turn. (video 1:11)
*To check sizing, or for alternative sizing, the length of the first row should be about the length of your foot from heel to toe plus one inch.
R2: Ch 1, sc first st, ch 1, sk st, *sc next st, ch 1, sk st, rep from * across, turn. (video 2:28)
R3 Color B: Ch 1, sc first st, sc in ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sc in ch-1 sp, rep from * across, sc last st, turn. (video 03:31)
R4: Ch 1, sc first st, ch 1, sk st, *sc in ch-1 sp, ch 1, rep from * across until 2 st remain, sk st, sc last st, turn. (05:02)
R5-8: Rep rows 3 & 4 changing colors A & B every 2 rows. (video 05:58)
R9-21 Color C: Repeat rows 3 & 4 ending on row 3
R22-28: Repeat rows 3 & 4, alternating Colors A&B every 2 rows.
R29 Color A: Ch 1, sc each st across, fasten off.

Place a stitch marker on the 8th st on both sides. This is where the flaps will cross and connect. Overlap the flaps as shown in the photo below and sew them in place.
