Crochet over flip-flops
Are you tired of poking holes into perfectly good flip-flops? Then you’re in luck. These crochet sandals are a no-sew project. We will crochet over flip-flops straps.
A big thanks to a fellow crocheter, Tameka Gholston, for inspiring this project.
If you’re new to my blog, you may not know that I create new patterns every single week. Therefore, crochet writer’s block happens. When it does, I look around for inspiration. While scrolling through the crochet groups, I came across these cool no sew sandals. I thought to myself, “What a wonderful & simple idea!!” Tameka, thank you for helping create this perfect summer pattern.
I have provided additional up close picture for the toe & heel area of the tutorial. Ok, let’s hop into what you came here for. I give you three yarn option to create this pattern: Fingering weight, DK yarn, worsted weight yarn. Feel free to use whatever you have in your stash.

*Note: Every flip flop style is different. To achieve proper ankle strap length please measure from the first strap around your ankle to the second strap. Chain an ODD number for the ankle strap chain that will wrap around ankle.
*When counting stitches don’t forget to include the chain stitches in your total.
The number count at the end of the row are based off of the suggested beginning chain of 37 sts. Your number will vary if beginning chain is increased or decreased. Count can still be tracked with simple math:
Example: Starting chain 39. Add +2 to the end count of each row count in () parenthesis.
Round 1: Sc 27 st across the first strap, sc 27 st across the second strap. Chain 37(31,27) or your adjusted amount for the ankle strap (see note) sl st to first sc to join, turn. (91)
Round 2 is the only round that turns. Changing direction puts the project on the RS (right side).
Round 2: Ch 1, Sc in each st around, sl st to first sc to join. (91)
In the V of your flip flop, mark the center 4 sts of Round 2.
Round 3: Ch 4 (counts as dc+ch 1 throughout), sk 1, *dc, ch 1, sk 1*, repeat *to* until center four sts. Sk center 4 sts, *dc, ch1, sk1,*, repeat *to* til end of row, sl st to top of ch-3 st to join. (88)
Round 4: Ch 1, sc across until center 5 sts, sk center 5 sts, sc til end of row, sl st to join. (83)
Round 5 Repeat round 3. (80)
Round 6: Ch 1, sc across until center 5 sts, sk center 5 sts, sc til end of row, sl st to join. (75)
Round 7: Ch 4, sk 1, (dc, ch 1, sk 1) 20 times, dc, ch 10 loosely, sk 28, (dc, ch 1,) 2 times, sl st to top of ch-3 st to join. (57)
Round 8: Ch 1, sc around, sl st to join. (57)
Round 9: Ch 3, dc in each st around, sl st to join top of ch-3 st. (57)
Round 10: Repeat round 8. (57)
Round 11: Ch 4, sk 1, *dc, ch 1, sk 1*, repeat *to* around, dc in last st, sl st to the top of ch-3 st to join. (57)
Round 12: Repeat round 8. (57)
