It can be hard to tell what old designs look like sometimes because the photos are usually poor quality and some of them are even in black and white, but I knew when I saw this Carolina Square pattern that it was something special!
Let’s make the old new again with this vintage pattern refresh. I dusted off this old design and breathed new life into it with a bold color scheme and detailed written instructions. This little square is so much fun to crochet and it really packs a big visual impact.

Each motif measures 6 inches square
Notes
Don’t fasten off one color when you switch to another. Just drop it and pick it back up when you need it again.
Motif
Ch 5, sl st to the first ch to form a ring.
Round 1 A: Ch 4 (counts as a tr), 27 tr in ring, sl st to join to the top of the ch 4. (28)(video 1:10)
Round 2 B: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st, blsc next 6 sts, *2 sc next st, blsc next 6 sts, repeat from * around, sl st to join. (32)(video 3:50)
Round 3 A: Ch 1, sc, *ch 3, sk st, sc next st, repeat from * around, sl st to join. (16 loops)(video 5:56)
Round 4 B: Sl st next loop, ch 6 (counts as dc, ch-3), dc in same loop, ch 3, (sc in next loop, ch 3) 3 times, *(dc, ch 3) 2 times in next loop, (sc in next loop, ch 3) 3 times repeat from * around, sl st to the top of the ch 3.. (video 7:04)
Round 5 A: Sl st next loop, (ch1, sc, ch 3, sc) in same loop, ch 3, (sc next loop, ch 3) 4 times, *(sc, ch 3) 2 times in same loop, (sc next loop, ch 3) 4 times, repeat from * around, sl st to join. (video 10:23)
