10 Crochet Temperature Blanket Ideas and More (2021)

Crochet temperature blanket ideas

January is a great time of year to crochet a temperature blanket! You might be wondering, what is a temperature blanket? The answer really depends, because there is a lot of freedom in these designs, but basically it’s a way to document the temperatures of a year in crochet form. First, you decide what colors you want to use and what temperature ranges each color will be for. Then you’ll use the average temperature from each day (or the high or the low – really whatever you want!) to crochet the row or square for that day. At the end of the year, you have a beautiful blanket with a kaleidoscope of colors!

Of course, you aren’t restricted to just blankets. I’ve snuck a couple of other ideas in here for you. One is for a crochet temperature wrap and one is for a crochet temperature dress. Be creative and make your project unique! When you’re done, you’ll not only have an amazing finished product but also a huge feeling of accomplishment. Check out this great list and prepare to get inspired!

1.Mosaic Temperature Blanket

My favorite temperature blankets use stitches that drop down to mingle with other rows. I love the blended effect this gives your work. In the mosaic crochet technique, there is no changing color in the middle of the row. You can only work from right to left, so you have to cut and reattach for every row. This is the first crochet temperature blanket I have seen using this stitch. I just love the unique and interesting look!

2. 2021 Fiber Flux Temperature Throw

Here’s a modular temperature blanket option that you’re absolutely going to love. Here’s why: there is only a single round of crochet for each day, so it is very fast and easy (especially if you are playing catch up). The other neat thing about this one is the continuous join technique that lets you connect each motif without breaking the yarn. Included is a convenient crochet temperature blanket chart to keep your colors coordinated.

3. Moss Stitch Temperature Blanket

Bask in the beauty of another blended blanket! This crochet temperature blanket uses the moss stitch – a.k.a. alternating single crochet and chain stitches. Working your single crochet stitches into the chain spaces of the previous row gives a lovely woven effect. This is a great option for a beginner crochet temperature blanket!

4. Bohemian Temperature Wrap

Not a fan of blankets? How about a crochet temperature wrap? Fingering weight yarn keeps this project from getting overly large and the moss stitch is again the stitch of choice. This colorful accessory looks absolutely lovely – and fun to wear too! The best part is that you’ll be starting from the corner, so there’s no long starting chain!

5. Tunisian Crochet Temperature Blanket

If you haven’t tried Tunisian crochet yet, you are missing out! It’s sort of in-between crochet and knitting, and it’s one of my favorites. I can’t knit to save my life, but I find that  crochet is much easier! Crochet temperatures blankets are a great project option for learning new stitches because you’ll be getting lots of practice!

6. Corner Temperature Blanket

This granny square crochet temperature is a great example of a non-traditional color scheme. You’ll be starting from one corner of the blanket. The first day is just a little granny square and then each subsequent day adds on to the same two sides for a really cool mitered corner effect.

7. Birth Temperature Blanket

Crochet temperature blanket patterns don’t have to be for the current year. I love the idea of making one for a family member using temperatures from the year and place they were born! This slip stitch ripple design is perfect for a nice size blanket and extra fun with variegated yarn.

8. Faded Fantasy Temperature Blanket

What’s your favorite color? Mine is purple! Maybe that’s why I love this corner to corner single crochet temperature blanket so much. Instead of hot and cold colors, you just pick your favorite in 8 different shades and go from light to dark. What a cool idea!
